The Pictorial interest group provides a platform to showcase those images that emphasize the impact of subject matter, tonality, and composition, as well as encouraging the photographer to embrace conceptual ideas.
The idea that “The medium is the message” is an underlying principle of the Pictorial group.
Pictorial images are true to what the photographer sees. The viewfinder becomes the canvas.
Pictorial images should be both aesthetically and artistically pleasing. The viewer is presented with a sense of craft and artistry. They can be evocative, symbolic, emotional, or even stoic. No matter the subject, whether minimalist or complex, the primary emphasis is on the fundamental elements of photography: composition, colour, line, light, texture, tone, and positive/negative space.
